Only an 2 hour train ride from Zurich, Engelberg is one of the best freeride destinations in the world. It features "The Big 5" runs that are all easily accessible from the lifts and offer skiers long wild runs with untouched snow. There are many reasons we chose to come to Engelberg from its unique micro climate that generates more snow than anywhere in Switzerland, it's easy access terrain and elevations stretching from 9850ft down to 3400ft, and a diverse ski community of likeminded freeriders from all over the world who just want to have fun on and off the mountain.

More importantly, we have great friends in Engelberg who own the hotel where we stay, and who we have shared over 34 years of great friendship... we also have the experience of our own ADL ambassador, pro Skier and friend, Chad Sayers, who has visited Engelberg every year for countless winters, scoring magazine covers and good times - we really can't go wrong!

Engelberg has been on our hitlist for many years and our first trip there in 2023 exceeded expectations. We are super excited to go back again in 2024. If you are an experienced and powder hungry skier who loves skiing the side and backcountry, this trip is for you. We will ski all day every day and enjoy the apres in town and at the hotel. There will be no driving during the week, just a short walk to the cable car and trains to and from the airport. It's going to be equal parts adventure and relaxation.

Locations:Engelberg Switzerland and 1 night in Zurich

Activities:6 Total free Skiing days including 1 Day with local guides to show us some super secret runs, rodeling (night sledding), fondue and raclette eating

Small Group Size: We have room for 13 skiers total. With no cars and only trains from Zurich this will be a typical ADL pro style trip with friends able to split off into smaller groups and be very independent if desired. We spend less time herding cats and more time skiing and having fun.

Transportation:Roundtrip train tickets from Zurich to Engelberg

Accomodations: Seven nights total - 6 nights at the Baenklialp hotel in Engelberg and 1 night in Zurich on our final night before getting out early on Sunday for our flight home.

Meals:Shared Double Rooms including seven breakfasts. Drinks, Lunch and Dinners extra. There are multiple huttes on the mountain for incredible lunch options and many restaurants in town besides our own hotel.

Lift Tickets:6 Days Lift Pass covering all the mountain

2-3 Days Guided SkiingWe will utilize a mix of professional guides and locals the first 2-3 days to show us all the routes of the Big 5 as well as other secret spots so we can spend the rest of the week exploring how we please. All guests will need to either bring or rent Beacon, Shovel, Probe and a backpack. A good radio is also very useful. Ask us as we have deals on Ortovox and BCA.

Day 1:Depart USA Saturday February 24th, Arrive Zurich Day 2: Sunday Feb. 25th, 2024 - Transfer by train to the hotel in Engelberg - approx time 1.5 hours. We arrive in the evening - Dinner and a good sleep is the order of the day.

Day 3: Monday - Breakfast and then guided skiing.

Day 3:Tuesday - Breakfast and then guided skiing.

Day 4:Wed - - Breakfast and then guided skiing.

Day 5:Thursday - Free Skiing all day on our own.

Day 6:Friday - Free Skiing all day on our own.

Day 7:Saturday - Free Skiing for half day then back to Zurich by train. We will stay in the city and walk around the old town for dinner.

Day 8:Sunday - Fly home most flights leave early AM. Arrive back same day.

African safari hunters have their legendary "Big Five" of elephants, lions, rhinoceroses, buffalos and leopards, but for freeriders on a ski safari in Engelberg, there are "The Laub, Galtiberg, Steinberg, Sulz and Steintali" Five very unique runs and unforgettable powder-filled experiences.

The Laub big like an elephant... When people think of freeriding in Engelberg, it's usually the Laub they have in mind. Its great breadth and length and easy accessibility has brought this mighty descent global fame. The Laub is a long off-piste run with a 4000ft vertical descent.

The Galtiberg is majestic like a lion... The Galtiberg route from TITLIS down to Engelberg promises you 4000 feet of spectacular freeride adventure. The "Galti" is one of the longest freerider descents in the whole of the Alps. A mountain guide is highly recommended!

The Steinberg as thick skinned as a rhino... The Steinberg offers a range of descents that provide enjoyable freeriding over playful, undulating terrain. There are crevasses on the Steinberg and our guide will help us navigate safely.

The Sulz is adapatable like the buffalo... Small, medium and large Sulz invite you to playful freeriding for all tastes and all levels of ability.

The Steintali concealed like a leopard... The stone valley is somewhat hidden behind the Jochstock, but it is actually easy to get to on the Jochstock-Xpress. Because of its north-west aspect, good powder can often be found here even days after the last snowfall.

Traveler Type:We are looking for fun travelers who like to discover new places together. That means you are flexible, low maintenance and like to go with the flow and to be surprised by what comes around the next corner. You should enjoy Bavarian food, drinks and good times with new and old friends.

Skier Type: Like all ADL Dreamtrips we cater to advanced/expert skiers. That means you know how to read trail maps and are comfortable skiing almost any run on the mountain. It also means you know how to ski back to the base or hotel by yourself if you so choose. We only ski in bigger groups when we are being guided and we follow their directions carefully. When not being guided we usually break into smaller groups of 3-4 and ski with those who share our ability or style of skiing. We are there to have fun whether that means we break up naturally into smaller groups or if it means party runs with 10-12 are in order we will do that too... its all about having fun and not being on a strict schedule.

Roommates: On this trip we have double rooms that sleep 2 people each. If you are a couple the beds can be combined into 1 - if you are not they are two twins. If you have some good friends or couples that you know would enjoy this trip - get them to come with y ou. We have done all the dirty work, with the trains, hotels and guides are all reserved.
